Getting Emotional Needs Met

Being Heard: How to Express Your Needs With Clarity & Confidence

1 hour and 11 minutes of instruction with an accompanying workbook · $37

Identifying your needs is the foundation, but knowing the behaviors that meet the need and expressing them to the people in your life can feel like walking through a minefield. Once our needs are identified we can work to understand both how those needs are met and how to clearly articulate this to others. Many of us avoid speaking up because we're afraid of starting a fight, being seen as “too much,” or being rejected. But silence only breeds resentment. You deserve a life where you can speak your truth and be met with understanding.

In this session we bridge the gap between “identifying” and “describing.” I provide the psychological tools to help you communicate your deepest needs in a way that invites connection and reduces defensiveness. A key “ah ha” moment for many is the realization we all have our needs met in different ways. Understanding that needs, and how they are met, are unique to each and every one of us allows space for empathy and curiosity to play a role in advocating for ourselves and showing up for others.

Tools you'll master

I was drawn in to Dr Sherron's video "getting emotional needs met" when my wife was watching it. I overheard her explanations of how people have needs that get met in different ways, and she went on to explain that that's ok but navigating that with a partner who has different needs can be challenging. I stayed and continued to watch the entire video because it all resonated with my wife and I and our life in how we've decided to raise our family. We've had many discussions since about communicating our needs better and how to navigate with kindness each others needs going forward. The video and examples regularly replay in our minds and give us comfort as we're working on ourselves and our families needs. Thank you Dr Sherron! I look forward to exploring the other videos and the impacts they surely will have too.
